Overview

The national FDSO programme was established to help NHS organisations develop the capability, confidence and readiness required to successfully implement Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems.

As one of the main delivery partners supporting NHSE’s FDSO (Frontline Digitisation Support Offer) Programme, our team delivered:

  • Over 80 of the 124 Learning Labs
  • Over 25 Events & Masterclass Sessions
  • Resource Support Requests
  • More than 10 Trust Boards supported with EPR expertise

What we were asked to do

Procea was asked to provide experienced digital and EPR subject matter experts to support NHS trusts participating in the Frontline Digitisation Support Offer. In addition, Procea lead on the design and delivery of the programme’s:

“Learning Labs”, a series of structured sessions designed to upskill NHS organisations on key aspects of EPR implementation.

board engagement programme, aiming to specifically focus on equipping trust boards with the skills and knowledge to oversee and lead successful EPR implementation.

Our approach

Procea supplied a flexible team of specialists with hands-on NHS EPR delivery experience. These experts facilitated dedicated workshops with trusts to provide practical advice, assurance and guidance tailored to each organisation’s maturity and challenges.

The sessions focused on sharing lessons learned, practical tools, and proven approaches across areas such as governance, change, training, testing and go-live preparation. Delivery was designed to be collaborative and interactive, enabling trusts to learn from both experts and peers.

Outcome

In total, the FDSO programme’s Learning Labs engaged 80 Trusts and supported 800+ individuals, covering the full EPR journey—from organisational readiness, through data migration, to go-live and stabilisation.

Overall Learning Lab impact (participant feedback):
🔹 85% agreed the session was relevant
🔹 94% agreed the session was engaging
🔹 92% reported improved delivery confidence
🔹 94% reported improved risk awareness

The impact and value of the programme’s collaborative approach were formally recognised in 2025, when the NHSE and consultancy partnership was awarded the HSJ Best Consultancy Partnership with the NHS, highlighting its contribution to building sustainable digital capability across the NHS.
