Overview
Medway NHS Foundation Trust has made significant progress on its digital transformation journey, delivering phased implementation of the Altera Electronic Patient Record (EPR) across multiple clinical services. As the programme entered a critical delivery phase, the Trust recognised the need for experienced interim programme leadership to maintain momentum, ensure continuity and support the successful delivery of the next stages of the EPR rollout.
What we were asked to do
Procea was engaged to provide experienced interim EPR programme leadership to support Medway’s EPR delivery over a 12-month period. The role was established to ensure continuity during a period of transition, maintaining robust governance, and leading the programme through complex phased deployments while safeguarding clinical safety, regulatory compliance and delivery timelines.
Our approach
Procea provided an interim EPR Programme Leader who embedded within Medway’s existing governance and delivery structures, working closely with clinical, operational and digital stakeholders. The focus was on stabilising leadership, maintaining pace and ensuring alignment between programme activity and the Trust’s wider digital transformation ambitions.
The interim Programme Leader provided hands-on leadership across phased delivery, stakeholder engagement, risk and issue management, reporting and assurance. Particular attention was given to supporting ongoing Altera deployments, managing dependencies across clinical services, and ensuring that optimisation and future module deployments were planned in a structured and sustainable way.
Alongside day-to-day programme leadership, the role supported forward planning for Medway’s two-year digital roadmap — helping to shape priorities around workflow optimisation, interoperability, third-party integrations, digital medicines and continued system optimisation.
Outcome
Medway benefitted from seamless continuity of programme leadership during a complex delivery phase, maintaining momentum across multiple Altera deployments without disruption. Robust governance, proactive risk management and clear reporting provided confidence to senior leadership and programme boards.
With experienced interim leadership in place, the Trust was able to progress current delivery milestones while laying strong foundations for future phases of its digital transformation. Procea’s support ensured that the EPR programme remained aligned to strategic objectives, clinically safe, and positioned to deliver measurable benefits as it continues to evolve.
